“Ged to da chopper!”

Written by chris skarratt Thursday, 19 August 2010 13:01

When I was a kid there was only 1 person who could make a movie a must-see.   It was Arnie.  Who else could play the Terminator, who else could play Conan, who else could play Dr. Alex Hesse? (OK, in case you’re wondering that’s when he had a baby!)  I ask you?  So how happy was I when we landed 3 of his classic 80’s bullets, bombs and blades titles – very, VERY, that’s how much.

ARNIE

Red Heat, Raw Deal and Red Sonja all in glorious Blu-ray, all here at Petrol, all under our attentive roof.  The only thing missing was the popcorn and beer, not that I drank that much beer when I was a kid.  Honest.

The Triathlon Season draws to a close!

Written by chris skarratt Thursday, 19 August 2010 12:13

Tough Guy followed by a spate of triathlon action – it’s been a good summer.  But now the winds of change are blowing and autumn is in the air.  It’s time for a different triathlon; this one involves ale, pies and roaring log fires.  It’s a fine tradition, and as those cooler, leafy nights start to close in the warm glow from the window of the local inn starts to draw you inextricably towards the smell of beer and meat.

So where is the best place for a pie and a pint?  It’s the Windmill Pub in Mayfair of course.  World class pie, legendary ale and a lovely warm fire to boot, you might just see the Petrol chaps down there one evening enjoying the hospitality.  If you do come and say hello and you might be treated to a pint of Waggle Dance.

It’s the buzz word of the moment, posters laud it, TV commercials praise it, even Delia has appeared in it – yes, High Definition TV, it’s the way of the future!  And to help us all get hold of the wonderful picture quality and listen to the glorious sound, the lovely people at Freeview are about to launch their service in HD.  With a raft of channels ready to go with lovely high definition content, the world cup just around the corner and the price of HD TV’s coming down all the time now is the time to get on board and see what all the fuss is about.

To help get the message out there we created a swanky HD promo, which you can check it out below.  It’s a great (free) HD service, one which we’ll be taking up – all that football in HD, it’s going to be magnificent!

Ross Kemp in the Middle East – Design and authoring at Petrol

Written by chris skarratt Tuesday, 23 March 2010 16:07

You’ve got to give it to the man, he does like to get into the middle of the action – A fight at the old Vic to the very heart of confrontation in the middle East.  And to add to his ever growing collection of dangerous locations is the new DVD release of Ross Kemp in the Middle East.  He spends time in both Israel & Gaza, talking to the people directly affected by the war.  Moving, heart in mouth stuff.

We were lucky enough to complete the DVD authoring, encoding and design.  Another project with the Petrol touch, a pleasure to work on all round.

Written by chris skarratt Wednesday, 10 March 2010 00:00

When you are asked to design and build a web site for an illustrator’s agency you have to step up and make sure you are ready to make it look tip-top.  Luckily for us we love that kind of challenge!  Pickled Ink represents a wealth of creative talent from the UK and abroad, the boasting distinct styles and creative versatility.
We have been lucky enough to work from day 1 with the lovely guys at PI through conceptualisation to delivery and a very well received web site.  We wish them every success!

Petrol sign up for the 10/10 initiative

Written by chris skarratt Monday, 11 January 2010 09:59

It's easy to think "I'll do my bit for the environment" and in practice we probably all do something: a bit of recycling, turning the light off, boiling less water in the kettle.  Easy.  But to really cut your carbon footprint you need to make a little more effort.  That's why we've signed up to the 10/10 initiative where by we aim to reduce the carbon footprint of Petrol by at least 10% in 2010. And I'm sure the irony of a company called Petrol signing up to reduce their carbon footprint isn't lost on you.

As they put in on their website "It’s simple: We all cut our carbon (emissions) by 10% this year. You, me, that bloke walking his dog outside, your work, your kids’ school, the council, the church, the chip shop. Everyone." So why not join us?  Even if you don't buy into the greener environment message, economically it make a lot of sense - you reduce your energy use, you save money.

You can find out more about how you can join the campaign, reduce your carbon footprint and save money here: www.1010uk.org
